Updated Ancestry DNA Origins

Multi-colored DNA molecule Helix

Hey! Have you checked out your updated Ancestry DNA Origins yet? They say this is their biggest one ever:

"The Ancestral Origins 2025 Update is here, and it’s our most exciting and detailed update yet. We're thrilled for you to explore the new insights into your family's story. With now more than 3,600 places around the world your DNA can connect you to, this update is a monumental step forward in understanding your genetic heritage.

So, what makes this update so special? We are launching 68 new and updated European regions, delivering even more granularity than ever before. Additionally, every AncestryDNA user gets their DNA re-analyzed during the update, which means you’re likely to see changes to the specific regions and percentages you see in your results."

Here is a screen shot of my DNA Origin changes:

New Ancestry DNA Origins Info 2025 vs 2024

My Irish origins are now divided into 5 specific regions and The Netherlands and Wales are now no longer sources of my origins. Now I have Donegal ancestors to look for, as well as Southeastern and Northwestern England. More clues about the unknown Great-great grandfather?

I've got several tests I'm keeping track of for clients, and some of them have some interesting tweaks upon first glance. I'll have to go back and drill down.

Additionally, Ancestry has added a little video for your DNA origins, journeys and traits you can find on the App or by scanning a QR code from your browser. A word of warning, if you have a different tree selected in your App, that will be the Origins video that shows up. I was very confused when I saw I had Spanish origins when it first opened!

Ancestry is having a site-wide sale through the 22nd, and other companies also have their DNA tests on sale to help you get ready for Holiday Gifting!

Don't forget we offer a FREE, NO OBLIGATION evaluation of your Family Tree and your brick walls! Send an email to the address below!

I hope your Fall Genealogy "Harvest" is bountiful!
