I'm lucky enough to be doing Scots Irish research again this week! The ballpark figure is that over 200,000 Scots Irish came to the American colonies between 1717 and 1775. And wasn't FamilyTreeMagazine kind enough to email me a lovely article all about them?
Not everyone who was moved to Northern Ireland (Ulster) by England was a Scottish Protestant, there were Protestants from Germany and France there too. Another reason your DNA may have little extra bits in it that you were not expecting.
There are hundreds of FREE documents, books, and genealogies available to you online to research your Scots Irish ancestors. Here are a few links:
Cyndi's List https://www.cyndislist.com/uk/sct/
FamilySearch has over 500, but you can narrow down to your specific interest
Northern Ireland GenWeb https://www.nir-roots.org/
Your paid subscription sites like Ancestry and FindMyPast have easy to use search engines to find people and information about the places they left to come to a new life in America.
How's your tree coming? Need some help? Shoot me an email, and I'll be happy to take a look at your brick wall.
It's almost September! The Halloween decorations and candy are out in the stores, and I hear rumors about Pumpkin Spice Lattes! It will be THE HOLIDAYS before you know it. Is there a history nut on your shopping list? How about researching their own family's place in history for them? We've got time and ideas! Let's get on it!
Thanks for sharing your time with me again,
Leslie Ryan
