Sunday the 13th is Grandparents Day in the USA!

Marian McQuade of West Virginia got the ball rolling there on this celebration in 1973, and President Jimmy Carter made it a national holiday in 1978.

Since that time at least 22 countries have honored grandparents with their own day, and the Pope jumped on board by declaring that World Day For Grandparents and the elderly each year on the fourth Sunday in July (mark your calendars now!).

FamilySearch has some ideas about celebrating your grandparents whether they are near or far. They are our best resource for family history as genealogists, so this weekend might be a great opportunity to honor them with a visit to look at pictures, or record their favorite memories about their lives and their parents.

Grandparents and grandchildren outside in winter coats taking a group selfie,

Take pictures of them now, to share in the years to come. A group family photo would be great to have, wouldn't it?

There are some great suggestions about things to ask your grandparents (or your parents for that matter) at this webpage

I didn't even have to sign in to get them, so absolutely free to use!

Clip from Coco featuring the reunion of Miguel with Mama Coco by Disney Pixar 2017.

If they are not around anymore, keep their memories alive with younger people, like you might have learned in the Disney-Pixar movie "Coco" from 2017. Click on the picture to the left to see a short clip of the sing along version of "Remember Me" (happy and sad) from Disney. It's from YouTube so might have to watch a short ad for a few seconds, sorry.

If I can help with your tree or saving memories, please send me an email for a free review at the address below.

Wishing you and yours all the best this weekend,
