How Alert is Your Web Search?

Pack of Alert Meerkats from Britannica

We have talked before about how to find family history with a web search, and I'd like to update you with something else you can try with Google. Did you know that Google will alert you when something that may be related to your brick wall has come up? Your computer can act like a pack of always on the alert meerkats for you!

I found this out in a FamilySearch blog post this past week, and it is super easy to do. You can set up all the alerts you want, and Google will even send you an alert when a web page has been updated! Here is where you set it up with your Google account: www.google.com/alerts

I have had great luck this month doing web searches about military history for a family without having to use my Fold3.com subscription! If you know the unit they served in, you can find all the battles they fought in, and their names might even be listed as members or as casualties. A great addition of info for the military history buff in your family.

Here is a link to my blog article from last summer about how to efficiently search on the web:

It's hard to believe we only have two weeks before school starts again here in Texas! Fall will soon be here, and I'm sorry if I am the first to alert you, but it's time to think about family tree Holiday gifts! Order that DNA test soon so you will have matches in time for the Holiday gatherings.

Always a free peek at your tree with suggestions, just send me an email. Keep on keeping cool!

Regards,

Leslie Ryan
