Family History Holiday Gift Ideas

Xmas tree with jackolanterns and thanksgiving Designed and sold by NerdyWerkstreats

Friends, it is that time of year we have come to know as HalloThanksMas. Don't you love that image (the link to buy this art print is below)? In any case, let's think about how we can combine our expensive hobby/passion with our holiday gift budget, shall we? Onward into Family History Holiday Gifts!

Yes, you can always buy that DNA test, I still highly recommend it, but not everyone wants to spit in a cup, and not everyone wants their DNA out there on the internet. I prefer to believe it's not because they're hiding something!

The National Genealogical Society has some great ideas on their page for preserving photos and memories both oral and written with free download instructions! https://www.ngsgenealogy.org/family-history-month/

If you should, by chance, be looking for a gift for a genealogist in your life, they have a new book, "Forensic Genealogy: Theory & Practice." If you are not an NGS member you can open a free account and buy the book for $55 (individual memberships are $85). It is compiled by Michael S. Ramage, JD, CG, and Catherine Becker Wiest Desmarais, CG with articles contributed by some of the lecturers you have been learning from. https://www.ngsgenealogy.org/forensic-genealogy/

Glass cutting board with green edge of family recipe

You can share family recipes that mom and grandma used to make on cutting boards or aprons by Googling "custom imprints." Last year I ordered glass cutting boards with my mother-in-law's famous cookie recipe! I scanned her recipe card (stained from use, but carefully type written) and saved it as a jpeg. The kids really liked it, and I like remembering her when I'm chopping the ingredients for those cookies! That's a promo shot from the site I ordered it so you can see how it looks before hitting the "Order" button!

Of course, Ancestry and the other sites have options for printing out your tree and photos, and you might want to consider doing that! Check and see if they have a sale soon, you never know!

If I can help you with your Tree or some gift ideas, send me an email and let's talk!

Thanks for spending your time with me again this week,

Leslie Ryan
