DNA Day 2026

Happy DNA Day 2026! The world celebrates the discovery of the DNA molecule 73 years ago in 1953 when James Watson, Francis Crick, Maurice Wilkins, Rosalind Franklin and colleagues published papers in the journal "Nature" on the structure of the DNA molecule on April 25. It also celebrates the complete transcription of all the molecules that make up human beings in 2003.

The first commercially available DNA tests came from FamilyTreeDNA in 2003 but the concept exploded in 2007 with 23andMe. Ancestry followed in 2012 and MyHeritage in 2016. Incidentally, MyHeritage and FamilyTreeDNA are now partnered together, even though you need memberships to both sites.

What's on sale this year, you may ask? As of this morning 4/22/2026, this is what I found:

FamilyTreeDNA thru April 30th, Family Finder (autosomal DNA test) is $39 down from $79, Y-37 (Paternal DNA only) $79 down from $119, their Big-Y DNA (more pieces of DNA tested) is $399 down from $449, an they have various bundles you can put together at their site https://www.familytreedna.com/

MyHeritage DNA kits for $19.90 down from $89 and if you opt for the 30 day free membership there is no shipping charge ($45 Canadian) https://www.myheritage.com/dna

As for which company you should choose, here is a link to my latest reviews of the majors: https://www.whoicomefrom.com/post/it-s-all-about-that-database

These sales appear to all be going on thru the 30th, so you have some time to research these offers at these excellent prices. If you'd like some advice about which test from where to get, or anything about your tree, send us an email or look us up on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/WhoIComeFromGenealogy)! We offer a no obligation free review of what you have to see if we can help.
