The Irish Genealogy Research that has been made available to me just SO FAR this Irish American History Month has been amazing if not a little bit overwhelming!
There were some great presentations at RootsTech that you might enjoy:
I highly recommend this hour-long session about emigration to Canada from Ireland because of The Famine. Can't find your ancestors' arrival in the US? Maybe they were like mine, stopping off in Canada first. Back in those days there was trouble free passage across the borders in N. America. Great additional history about the emigration you might not know:
There are some other lectures there on RootsTech you can view for free, all you need is an account at FamilySearch.org to search and watch.
Probably the BEST, MOST INFORMATIVE lecture I have ever learned from in over 30 years of researching my Irish roots was presented by the Dallas Genealogical Society on March 1 as part of their regular lecture series. Kathleen R. Murray gave an info packed hour-long lecture called, "Irish Research: Discovering a Family Left Behind."
There is also a syllabus available covering EVERYTHING you could want to know about how to find and sort through what records remain and how to interpret them. Church records, Property Records, Civil Registers, Newspapers, Probates, and Civil courts are explained, and links to a slew of websites both free and subscription necessary.
Through the kindness and generosity of the Dallas Genealogical Society and my fellow members, you too can watch this lecture on YouTube. The link and the syllabus can be found here: https://dallasgenealogy.org/videos/
If you find this lecture, or any of the others there on that page of use, you may want to consider membership in the DGS to be sure not to miss any of their other presentations! $35 a year - what a deal!
If you join now, you could attend the Spring Seminar on Saturday, the 15th via Zoom or in person! This is a big one, and we're very excited about it!
Honoring Your Shamrocks: Researching All Your Irish Ancestors, presented by representatives of the Ulster Historical Foundation, in person (!), in Dallas.
I'm sorry if I seem to be gushing on, but Kathleen Murray's presentation was so inspiring, you just can't even imagine till you take a look for yourself!
I'm headed back to the FREE "Ask About Ireland" site and the Townlands Of Ireland to search for my families now!
May the Luck of the Irish be yours in your research no matter where your family begins! If I can help you with your tree, pop me over an email! No charge for an initial peek.
Slán libh ("safe with you"),
Leslie Ryan
